The purpose of this agreement is to develop and implement a cooperative program between the CONTRACTOR, WSU Extension Shore Stewards Program (WSU, Contract Number 2014-23), the Puget Sound Partnership (PSP), and three (3) identified conservation districts (CD) to increase landowner actions improve water quality in shellfish harvest areas. The project will establish a program of outreach and face to face contact with 100% of property owners in a targeted geography (final selection will be made during project implementation subject to PSP approval and in consultation with the State Department of Health (DOH) and local health jurisdictions). Contacted landowners will receive information on the resource concern and best management practices (BMPs) that reduce bacterial contamination on properties adjacent (within 250 feet) to shellfish growing areas and parcels directly adjacent to the main tributaries. The goal is to demonstrate the relationship between landowner contact and the increased likelihood of the landowners implementing BMPs, with associated measureable water quality improvements.
